HARM REDUCTION SUPPORT WORKERS

Full and Part-Time Positions Available (Salary to be determined)

Our goal is to address the needs of individual who experience barriers to accessing care and services and have complex addiction and/or social issues. We have various openings supporting full and part time positions. Offers of employment include full time hours (35 hours/wk) and flexible part time hours and will include work within our 6 county catchment area. The positions will be scheduled to provide a mix of daytime, weekend and evening services.

Who Are We?
Regional HIV/AIDS Connection (RHAC) is a volunteer driven, non-profit, community-based organization serving the six counties surrounding London – Perth, Huron, Lambton, Elgin, Middlesex and Oxford. We are a community-inspired organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals and diverse communities living with, at-risk for or affected by the challenges associated with HIV/AIDS. Our philosophy includes adherence to The Ontario Accord/GIPA (Greater Involvement of People Living with HIV/AIDS), Anti-Racism / Anti Oppression, Sex Positivity, Principles of Harm Reduction, Holistic Health and Civil Society.

These Harm Reduction roles are responsible for engaging clients through outreach and in-reach activities, as well as educating individuals and communities, primarily through:
 - Delivering education and information on harm reduction, HIV/HCV and other blood borne illnesses
 - Increasing knowledge about safer drug use practices
 - Increasing access and use of harm reduction equipment and materials
 - Providing harm reduction material/supplies to individual who inhale/inject drugs
 - Liaising with other community services providers, maintain and support existing partnerships; develop new partnerships

We want to hear from you if you:
 - Have working knowledge of addictions and have used harm reduction principles and approaches when supporting people
 - Understanding of societal stigma imposed on the drug using population and its related impacts
 - Have excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills with strong written and oral communication skills
 - Have experience with both individual and systemic advocacy
 - Have crisis intervention/de-escalation skills
 - Demonstrate strong organizational, time management skills with strong computer and data management skills
 - Have knowledge of community resources and London social service agencies

Qualifications
 - Direct experience with communities at risk
 - Post-secondary education in social services and/or experience providing education/support/counseling to adults
 - Minimum three (3) years’ experience working within the harm reduction model of service delivery
 - Knowledge about HIV/HCV transmission, social determinants of health related issues
 - Knowledge of different substances and how they may impact on a person’s behavior
 - Valid driver’s license for work-related duties and proof of insurance required
 - Training and rigorous application of safe sharps handling practices
 - Basic First AID, CPR, Crisis Prevention Intervention and will obtain a Vulnerable Positions Screening (Police Check)
